When we first moved to the Inland Northwest (of the US) my husband surprised me by saying "What is that beautiful bird? It looks like it is wearing a tuxedo!". I couldn't help but laugh because growing up in Canada (just north of this area) I had seen many magpies and most people consider them a pest. I had never heard them called beautiful before. However, it made me see them through his eyes and I couldn't agree more that they are indeed very beautiful birds.
